Annette Strickland

Pembroke

Annette Chavis Strickland, 67, of Pembroke, passed away Nov. 29, 2012, after a brief illness.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at Berea Baptist Church in Pembroke, the Revs. Chris Hunt and Kent Chavis Officiating. Burial will follow in the Bear Swamp Cemetery.

She was the beloved granddaughter of the late Roy Lee and Annie Liza Chavis and the Daughter of the late James Theodore Locklear and Annie (Chavis) Jacobs.

Annette was preceded in death by her siblings, Alberta Jacobs Bryant, Geannie Ann Jacobs Locklear and Roy Nell Jacobs.

She is survived by her sons, Deon Strickland and wife Carmen of Winston-Salem, and Gary Strickland Jr. and wife Hope of Pembroke; and her grandchildren, Lauren, Taley, Ross, and Jenna; Also survived by her beloved friend, Lee Edward Sampson of Pembroke; three brothers, Gentry Jacobs, Verlis Jacobs Jr. and John Locklear; four sisters, Kathy Dial, Myrtle Jones, Donna F. Bryant and Barbara Bilek.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Revels Funeral Home in Pembroke, and at other times at the home of Gary and Hope Strickland.

Mary Lou Byrd Thompkins, 79, of Lumberton, passed away Nov. 30, 2012.

A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at Meadowbrook Cemetery.

She was born on Jan. 4, 1933, in Robeson County. She was the daughter of the late Roy Byrd and the late Dessie Rhodes Byrd. She was previously employed as a clerk at PWC Power Company.

Thompkins is survived by her daughter, Kay S. Faulk and husband Sandy of Fairmont; her brother, Edward Byrd and wife Carol of Newland; two grandchildren, Amy Inman and Stephanie Collins; and a great-grandchild, Madison McLaurin.

The visitation will follow services at the cemetery.

Dorothy White, 72, of Lumberton, passed away Nov. 27, 2012, at Southeastern Regional Medical Center.

The services and burial will be private.

She was born on May 16, 1940, in Bladen County. She was the daughter of the late Sandy White and the late Lonnie Bell Williamson.

White is survived by her son, Royal Hawkins of Wilmington; a daughter, Patricia Harris of Charlotte; three brothers, Jimmy White of Lumberton, Steve White of Tacoma, Wash., and Donnie White of Ashville; two sisters, Wanda Autry of Bladenboro, and Sandra White of Wake Forest; and three grandchildren.

Riley Chavis, 71, of 1700 McGirt Gin Road, died Nov. 29, 2012, at Southeastern Regional Medical Center.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. today at Mount Carmel Holiness Church, the Rev. Oscar Henderson officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Carmel Holiness Church Cemetery.

He is survived by a daughter, Mary Ann Chavis of Shannon; two brothers, James Earl Chavis and Eric Chavis, both of Maxton; six sisters, Annie Locklear, Carlean Wallace, Angie Chavis and Annie Lane Chavis, all of Maxton, and Claudine Chavis and Eloise Bullard, both of Pembroke; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

The visitation will be from 1 t0 2:45 p.m. today at Mount Carmel Holiness Church.
