Benny Anderson Deeringwater, 78, of 301 Charlotte’s Road, was born Dec. 8, 1933, and died Dec. 2, 2012, at Southeastern Regional Medical Center.

A memorial will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Locklear & Son Funeral Home Chapel, Minister Ray Vanderpool officiating.

Deeringwater served his country proudly in the U.S. Army and served in the Vietnam War and received the Purple Heart.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie D. and Rose Fixico Deeringwater; a son, Ronald Dale Deeringwater; and a sister, Ruby Fixico.

Surviving are his wife, Thelma L. Deeringwater of the home; two sons, Renny D. Deeringwater of the home and David M. Deeringwater of Lumberton; two daughters, Teresa F. Purpuro of Helena, Mont., and Debra Lee Weiss of Fayetteville; three brothers, Charlie Deeringwater Jr., Louie Deeringwater and Ray Deeringwater, all of Oklahoma; two sisters, Martha Deeringwater and Anna Lou Croft, both of Oklahoma; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Locklear & Son Funeral Home Chapel.

Grant Nygaard, 50, of 805 E. Main St., died Dec. 2, 2012, at Southeastern Regional Medical Center.

The funeral will be 9 a.m. Thursday at Rowland United Methodist Church, the Revs. Butch Farrah and David Frances officiating. Burial will follow in the Rowland Cemetery.

Nygaard is survived by his wife, Helen A. Nygaard of the home; a son, Tanner Hansen Nygaard of Rowland; his mother, June L. Nygaard of Rowland; and a brother, Clint Nygaard of Stedman.

The visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Fellowship Hall of Rowland Methodist Church.

Willie “June June” Locklear Jr., of 93 Bea Ann Lane, died Dec. 3, 2012, at Southeastern Regional Medical Center.

The funeral will be 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Ashpole United Methodist Church, the Rev. Harold Hunt officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

He is survived by three sons, Gerald Locklear of Rowland, Bruce Locklear of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Joshua Locklear of Rowland; four daughters, Diane Locklear and Kristy Locklear, both of the home, Carolyn Sue Blanks of Lumberton, and Penny Oxendine of Maxton; three sisters, Mae Wes Hunt, Lou Helen Bell, Mary Lois Richardson, all of Rowland; a brother, Douglas Locklear of Rowland; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren.

The visitation will be from 7 to 9 tonight at Boles Funeral Home.
