Franklin Averitt

LUMBERTON — Franklin Murphy “Frank” Averitt Jr., of Lumberton, died Jan. 30, 2013.

A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Lake Waccamaw. A memorial will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Trinity Episcopal Church in Lumberton.

Frank was a native of Fayetteville, graduated from Fayetteville High School in 1959, and Wake Forest University in 1963. He served on the Vestry at Trinity Episcopal Church and was a longtime member of both the Lumberton Rotary Club and North State Game Club. He was a retired banker and insurance agent.

Frank was preceded in death by his parents, Franklin M. Averitt and Carolyn Council Averitt, his sister, Cornelia Averitt Fox, and a brother-in-law, Gilbert Whitted Ray Jr., all of Fayetteville.

He is survived by his wife, Martha Ray Averitt; his son, Franklin Murphy Averitt III (Anna); his grandchildren, Christianna Council Averitt and Franklin Murphy Averitt IV; and his sister, Carolyn Averitt Lancaster (Kenneth); many nephews and nieces; and great-nephews and great-nieces.
