MAXTON — Bertha Lee Dunn Smiling, 83, of Maxton, passed away Feb. 12, 2013, at her home.

The funeral will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the Union Light Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Bertha was born in Robeson County on Sept. 23, 1929, daughter of the late James L. and Macy Oxendine Dunn. She was the loving wife to the late Lester D. Smiling. She was a devoted homemaker and served as a longtime faithful member of Union Light Baptist Church in Maxton. She loved everyone and enjoyed helping others. Mrs. Smiling was known as “Grandma” to all in her community.

She was preceded in death by her brother, L.B. Dunn; a sister, Lucille Dunn; and a granddaughter, Teresa Gail Heaton Locklear.

Smiling leaves to cherish her memory her children, a son, Davis Smiling of Jacksonville; three daughters, Margie Smiling, Jane Locklear, Teresa Smiling, all of Maxton; a brother, Ricky Strickland of Red Springs; a sister, Janice James of Shannon; seven grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and a host of family and friends.

The visitation will be from 7 to 9 today at the Union Light Baptist Church.

Services entrusted to Richard Boles Funeral Service in Laurinburg.
