ST. PAULS — Johnny Lee Phillips, 70, of St. Pauls, died March 3, 2013.

He was born in Moore County on Oct. 6, 1942, to the late Troy and Grace Mason Phillips.

A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.

He is survived by his daughter, Michelle Phillips.

He was a loving father and a great man who loved life and lived it to the fullest. He taught at St. Pauls High School for 34 years and he loved his job, his students and his co-workers.

This poem by Ralph Waldo Emerson fully describes who he really was:

To laugh often and much

To win the respect of intelligent people

and the affection of children;

To earn the appreciation of honest critics and

endure the betrayal of false friends;

To appreciate beauty, to find the best in others;

To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child,

a garden patch or a redeemed social condition;

To know even one life has breathed easier

because you have lived.

That is to have succeeded.

He will be loved and missed by many. I love you Daddy.
