LUMBERTON — Luther (Black) Douglas Locklear, 82, of Lumberton, departed life March 9, 2013.

The funeral will be 3 p.m. Wednesday at New Point Baptist Church, the Revs. Jack Murray and Gerald Smith officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

He was born in Robeson County on Jan. 7, 1931, to the late Luther C. and Mollie Bell Locklear.

He worked as a volunteer fireman, a security guard for the Board of Education, and taught carpentry at Robeson Community College. He taught the Senior Sunday School Class at New Point Baptist Church for many years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Mae Locklear, and a grandson, Eric Cha Hunt.

Locklear is survived by a brother, Zide Locklear of Fairmont; a son, Anthony and wife Michelle Locklear of Fayetteville; two daughters, Shirlene Hunt and Kathy Oxendine, both of the home; a granddaughter, Shonda Locklear of the home; two granddaughters; a grandson; and eight great-grandchildren.

A special thank you is extended to the family of Marshall Hammonds and also to Mrs. Christina Clark.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at New Point Baptist Church.
