FAIRMONT — Annie McNair McLean, 79 of Fairmont, answered the call of the Master on March 9, 2013, at Duke University Hospital.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Star of Bethlehem Church, MLK Jr. St. in Fairmont, Dr. William C. Marable Officiating.

Ann exchanged this earthly life for an eternal life of peace. She was born on April 24, 1934, in Fairmont to the late Daniel and Mamie McNair. She grew up in Fairmont and graduated from Rosenwald School, where she was very active in the band, yearbook staff and cheerleader. Ann is also a graduate of Winston Salem State University where she received a BS Degree in Early childhood Education. She received her Masters Degree from NC A&T State University in Elementary Education.

Annie McLean loved teaching and taught for 37 years. She began her career in Mecklenburg County Public Schools, where she taught for 14 years. Later she and her family moved to Robeson County where she taught for 23 years.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. & Mrs. Daniel McNair; and her grandparents, the Rev. Franklin and Lillie Smith and John and Florence McNair.

Survivors are her husband of 52 years, Lanes Edward McLean of the home; a daughter, Joy A. McLean of Raleigh; three sisters-in-law, Joann Jeralds of Fayetteville, Iris Thompson of Chesapeake, Va., and Patricia Chisley of Maryland; two brothers-in-law, James Thompson of Chesapeake, Va., Al Chisley of Maryland; and a host of nieces and nephews.

The visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday at Star of Bethlehem Baptist Church, 707 MLK Jr. St. in Fairmont.
