LUMBERTON — The Lumberton Police Department is investigating recent armed robberies at two local stores, and circulating photographs lawmen hope will lead to arrests.

The department released surveillance system images from the robberies at a Dollar General and a Minuteman and is asking the public to come forward with any information that might help solve the crimes.

On Friday morning a masked armed man robbed the Minuteman No. 38 at 1755 Roberts Ave., according to police Capt. Terry Parker. The man fled after the robbery in a burgundy 2005 Ford 500 with North Carolina license plate BJP-5764 that belonged to a store employee.

No one was injured during the robbery, and there was no information on what was stolen other than the vehicle, according to Parker.

The robber was described as a black man, about 5 feet 8 inches tall to 5 feet 11 inches tall, and weighing 160 to 175 pounds. He was wearing a white long-sleeve shirt with a black T-shirt over it, black pants, and black tennis shoes with white laces. He had a white bandana over his face and wore a black toboggan cap. He was armed with a handgun.

About 8:55 p.m. on Thursday two men, each wearing a white bandana to conceal his identity, entered the Dollar General store at 2505 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and stole an undisclosed amount of money. One of the men was armed with what was described as a handgun.

After robbing the store the men left on foot and walked south from the store. No one was injured, and there were customers in the store at the time of the robbery.

One of the photos shows one of the men without a bandanna.

One robber is described as a black male, 5 feet 11 inches tall, and weighing about 200 pounds. He was wearing a tan jacket, blue jeans and was carrying a green book bag.

The other robber is described as a black male, 5 feet 8 inches tall and weighing about 200 pounds. He was wearing a dark blue or black jacket, and blue jeans. He was carrying a handgun.
