LUMBERTON — Robeson County residents can get tips and advice on how to protect their families and homes from future disasters at the Emergency Operations Center on Thursday.

Federal Emergency Management Agency mitigation specialists will be available to answer questions about home repair and resiliency, making disaster plans, and the importance of flood insurance. Attendees also will have the opportunity to locate their properties on a floodplain map.

The mitigation event will take place 6 to 8 p.m. The Emergency Operations Center is located at 38 Legend Road in Lumberton.

Mitigation is an effort to reduce the loss of life and property damage by lessening the impact of disaster.
