LUMBERTON — Classes will be offered in March to anyone interested in helping expand the capability to provide environmental health and safety training in Robeson County.

A free four-day Train the Trainer course is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day March 11 to March 14 at the Emergency Operations Center located at 38 Legend Road in Lumberton. The training is available to members of the community and representatives from agencies, organizations and faith-based groups. Participants must be committed to teaching classes and training other trainers.

A free one-day Environmental Health & Safety class is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 15 at the Emergency Operations Center. The class is available to members of the community and representatives from agencies, organizations, and faith-based groups who would like to learn more about the health impacts associated with exposure to mold and other toxins, the proper use of personal protective equipment, how to safely engage in cleanup efforts after a disaster, and more.

Only a limited number of slots are available. Interested individuals, agencies and groups are urged to register as quickly as possible. Training and class slots will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

The class will be offered jointly through The Robeson County Disaster Recovery Committee, National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences Worker Training Program, the International Chemical Workers Union Council, and delivered by the ICWUC Center for Worker Health and Safety Education.
