PEMBROKE — The Public Schools of Robeson County recently named Purnell Swett High School student Donique McLaurin the 2019 Project Graduation T-shirt artist after her work was chosen out 18 eligible artists.

She will receive a $100 cash prize, recognition at the next Robeson County Public School Board of Education meeting and the honor of having her design front and center on this year’s student and adult Project Graduation shirt.

McLaurin’s design depicts all of Robeson County’s public high school mascots riding together in a car toward the “Road to Success.”

Project Graduation is a drug- and alcohol-free celebration for graduating seniors hosted by the school district and the community. The event is held on graduation night at The University of North Carolina at Pembroke. This year’s event tentatively is scheduled for June 21 at 7 p.m.

McLaurin’s art teacher is Shantonia Bullard.
