LUMBERTON —The Robeson County Board of Commissioners could decide Monday whether or not a widow can keep her late husband’s mausoleum close to home.

A public hearing is scheduled regarding a conditional-use permit request from Robin Oxendine, of Philadelphus Township. Oxendine is asking for a permit that would allow for the establishment of a family cemetery on her one-acre property, which is in a Residential Agricultural District. Her husband died in August and was buried in a mausoleum on her property. The mausoleum was built and the burial took place before Oxendine obtained permission from the county.

If the permit is not approved, Oxendine may have to move the mausoleum to another location.

The meeting is at 6 p.m. at the county administration office on Elm Street. The Robesonian will provide live stream coverage on its Facebook page.

Also on Monday, Dixon Ivey, the county’s Planning and Zoning administrator, will discuss the county’s Flood Damage Prevention Ordinance. He will speak about guidelines that should be followed to minimize a flood’s effects on the public health and infrastructure within the county. Chuck Miller, District Engineer from the North Carolina Department of Transportation, will give a presentation on flooding caused by heavy rain and storms.

The commissioners will convene as the Housing Authority Board and hear reports on the board’s administration, housing, maintenance, finances, and the 2017-2018 audit.

There will be a public comment period, and the agenda includes a closed session.
