LUMBERTON — The all-conference basketball selections for the Three Rivers Conference were released on Wednesday afternoon, with six girls and eight boys representing Robeson County.

For the boys, St. Pauls guards Caleb Henderson and Emonta Smith wrapped up their breakout season with all-conference nods. Meanwhile, Fairmont’s Jayvon Morris and Waltay Jackson represented the conference tournament champions. South Robeson seniors Cameron Werrell and Kylerr Page, and Red Springs senior guard Jaylen Mack ended their careers with an all-county selection.

South Columbus guard Shiquaun Conyers took home Player of the Year honors.

On the girls side, T.J. Eichelberger and Diamond Simms-Moore represented St. Pauls. For Red Springs, Taylynn Atkinson and Jalexis Bratcher were selected. Nytia Lewis was the sole selection for South Robeson, while Georgianna Waters was chosen from Fairmont.

University of North Carolina at Pembroke signee JaTyra Moore-Peterson was named Player of the Year after leading East Bladen to an undefeated record in league play and capping it with a conference tournament title.

Six county players named all-Sandhills

Three boys and three girls from Robeson County teams were named to all-conference teams for the Sandhills Athletic Conference.

The league’s leading scorer, Jordan McNeill, was joined by Kwashek Breeden to represent Lumberton. Darriante Parker was selected for Purnell Swett.

Seventy-First forward Brion McLaurin was named Player of the Year after leading the Falcons to both the regular season and conference tournament titles.

For the girls, the senior duo of Madison Canady and Rachel O’Neil finished their careers with their second straight all-conference honor.

JaiLeana Deese was the sole representative for Purnell Swett.

Keayna McLaughlin won Player of the Year after helping Pinecrest win the league tournament after finishing with the best record in the regular season.

Raiders sweep Rams

PEMBROKE — Visiting Richmond earned two wins in the Sandhills Athletic Conference opener against Purnell Swett on the road on Wednesday.

In softball action, the Lady Raiders claimed an 8-1 win and Richmond run-ruled the Rams 14-0 in baseball action.

For the Purnell Swett softball team, Trinity Locklear, Angelica Locklear and Chandra Locklear each had a hit. Angelica Locklear had the one run-scoring hit for the Lady Rams in the sixth.

JaiLeana Deese struck out seven in her five innings of work.

In the baseball game, Richmond posted 11 runs in the fifth inning of the blowout.

Purnell Swett had four hits in the game from Ethan Wilkins, Jonathon Jacobs, Jacob Locklear and Cameron Fields.

Both squads will face off again on Thursday in Rockingham.

Lady Pirates fall in ninth to Hoggard

WILMINGTON — A three-run homer Skyler Walker in the bottom of the ninth inning to give Hoggard a 7-4 win over Lumberton on Wednesday.

Morgan Britt struck out 10 batters in the loss for Lumnberton. Katie Kinlaw had two hits, including the game-tying homer in the seventh inning.

Lumberton tops South Columbus in soccer

LUMBERTON — The Lumberton girls soccer team earned a 4-1 win over South Columbus at home on Wednesday.

Logan Cameron, Courtlyn McLellan and Hillary Oliver provided three goals, with the fourth coming on an own goal. Oliver, Cameron and Morgan Miller had assists, and Naw Lay had five saves in goal.
