LUMBERTON — A Florida man was arrested on Monday and charged with numerous drug crimes in the wake of a traffic stop on Interstate 95.

Levar Diego Thompson, of 20551 NW Eighth St. in Pembroke Pines, Florida, is charged with trafficking in cocaine by transport, trafficking in cocaine by possession, possession with intent to sale and deliver cocaine, maintaining a drug vehicle, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Robeson County Sheriff’s Office Maj. Damien McLean said Thompson was arrested on Monday after deputies stopped him near the nine-mile maker on the northbound lane of I-95 for driving too close to the vehicle in front of him. During the traffic stop, a K9 officer alerted on the 2018 Chevrolet Tahoe and about 2.2 pounds of powder cocaine was found hidden inside the vehicle, according to McLean.

Thompson was jailed in the Robeson County Detention Center under a $200,000 bond. His first court appearance was Tuesday.
