PEMBROKE — Ben Schmucker’s RBI single with two outs in the bottom of the seventh helped The University of North Carolina at Pembroke baseball team stake claim to a late lead, but ninth-ranked Erskine sent its entire order to the plate in a four-run eighth as part of a 10-5 win over the Braves on Tuesday.

Wiley Jackson, 3-for-4, singled three times to pace the Braves (17-7) amd Schmucker finished his day with a 2-for-4 hitting line. Drew Cole singled in a pair of runs and scored once on a 1-for-4 outing for the hosts as well.

Brandon Overstreet homered, drove in four runs and scored three times on a 3-for-6 day for the Flying Fleet (22-2), who have now won 11 of their last 12 games. Joey Wilson, who went 3-for-5 with a double, and Alex Garland, who went 3-for-4 with a run scored, each registered 3-hit days for the visitors as well.

UNCP reliever Daniel Batts (1-1) allowed five hits and four earned runs in a short relief stint in the seventh to take the loss for the Braves. Erskine utilized six pitchers in the outing, with reliever Joe Johnson (2-0) grabbing the victory despite registering just the final out in the seventh.

Cole’s two-run single in the bottom of the second put the Braves out in front 2-0, but Erskine used an ill-timed wild pitch to plate the tying run in the fifth, and then tacked up two more runs in the sixth to take a 4-2 advantage. Collins Cuthrell, Zade Denton and Schmucker all had RBI hits in the seventh to help the Braves retake the lead.
