To the Editor,

The Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8969 will be honoring America’s fallen military warriors during a Memorial Day ceremony on May 24 at the Bill Sapp Recreation Center in Lumberton.

Our intent is to sell both eight-person organizational tables and individual tickets to the event. The cost of the eight-person table is $200 and will include a full buffet meal with two meats, four vegetables, dessert, bread and a beverage. Organizationally-sponsored tables will appear on the event program as patrons.

The cost of individuals tickets is $25.

We will also be honoring the outstanding efforts of local citizens and business that have supported the projects and ideals of the Veteran of Foreign Wars. Our honorees are essay contest winners from Lumber Junior High School and Lumberton Senior High School, Teachers of the Year, Civilian of the Year, Service Person of the Year and Business of the Year.

The theme of the Memorial Day Ceremony is “A Night with Veterans” and its purpose is to raise money for:

— The Homeless Veterans House that serves homeless and disabled veterans throughout the Sandhills area. The home is located in Lumberton and is funded totally by the veterans who live in the home and from the personal funds of the two ladies who operate the home.

— The Fort Bragg Wounded Warrior Program.

All of the proceeds after expenses will be split evenly between the two organizations. These two organizations are providing badly needed support to our servicemen and they need our support in the execution of this critical missions.

Anyone who is interested in this event or assisting with it can contract me at 910-374-8689.
