The Rural Center has certainly been helpful to rural communities across the state. The only problem is most rural communities do a poor job planning for strategic improvements that lead to job creation and savings to tax payers. Most successful economic and community development efforts are led by the private sector through organizations that are non-political in nature. This is not the way most rural counties in North Carolina and it shows. Maybe it is time to try something different.
