Attention all music lovers: The 2015 Rumba on the Lumber is your place to be.
There will be music in the air beginning March 6 with the Friday Night Pasta Party sponsored by Allen Orthopedics at the Bill Sapp Center, then throughout March 7 at the Bud Light North of the Border Chili Cook-Off and the downtown plaza.
The Friday Night Pasta Party will, of course, feature delicious pasta brought to you this year by the Culinary Department at Robeson Community College, but you’ll get to enjoy the country-tinged sweetness of local favorite Dock Lee Hunt and his Band, as well.
Featuring tunes from many musical genres like “Stand by Me” and “Take it to the Limit,” Dock and his fabulous musicians will perform from 5 until 8 p.m.
So bring the family and your dancin’ shoes to the Bill Sapp Center for delicious pasta and terrific music. Pasta tickets are available from members of the Robeson Road Runners, as well as at Allen Orthopedics.
If you are looking for fun, chili, entertainment and all the songs you love, then the Bud Light North of the Border Chili Cook-Off is the place to be. Beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday in the parking lot at Third and Water streets, the Hip Pocket Band from Greensboro will get the party started and keep it going until 1 p.m.
With the lineup of LJ Little, Maffeo, Easy ‘E’ Stephenson, Dustin York, Tim Sidden, Frankie Hoggard and Preston Honeycutt, this band received a 2009 Carolina Beach Music Association award for Favorite New Artist.
Hip Pocket has been compared to the Band of Oz in the 1980s and Bill Deal and the Rhondels in the 1970s, and band members love that comparison. They are a one-of-a-kind variety band, playing everything from 1960s soul and 1980s dance music to today’s hot new country and party rock and roll.
If Carolina beach music is your thing, the band plays the classics you are looking for. So be sure to come out to ChiliTown to enjoy the chili, the beverages and the Hip Pocket Band.
Care to do a little singin’ yourself? Then come on over to the downtown Lumberton plaza from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturday for Karaoke on the Plaza with Bill and Libby from Wounded Wolfe Productions.
They’ll have everything set up on the Chestnut Street side of the plaza, and you can join them onstage to belt out your own rendition of a classic or two. Bill and Libby have appeared across the Carolinas, including nearby stops at the Cumberland County Fair and the Rocky Mount Fair.
Whether your pleasure is country, beach, soul or karaoke, you can be sure to find something to suit your musical tastes at this year’s Rumba on the Lumber. So come on out and enjoy yourself at one of Robeson County’s premier events.
