Seminars explore weight loss options

LUMBERTON — Drs. Eric Velazquez and Bamdad Farhad, both of Southeastern Surgical Center Health Mall, will host seminars on a variety of weight loss surgery options including adjustable gastric band, sleeve gastrectomy, and Roux-en-Y gastric bypass.

Velazquez will host a seminar on Wednesday from 6 to 7 p.m. at Southeastern Weight Loss Center, located within the Southeastern Health Mall on the campus of Biggs Park Mall and from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Farhad will host seminars at Southeastern Medical Clinic St. Pauls on May 15 and at the weight loss center on May 21, both from 6 to 7 p.m.

Event to raise funds for Relay

LUMBERTON — Gibson Cancer Center’s Relay for Life team will host a “Bark for Life” fundraiser event on Saturday beginning at 10 a.m. at Luther Britt Park. Participants are invited to walk the one-mile event with their dog for a $25 fee.

The event will also incorporate the “Walk with a Doc” program, which encourages local physicians to become actively involved with fitness in the community while educating the public about better health. For information, call 910-671-5762 orvisit

Talk covers sun safety

LUMBERTON — Learn about the dangers of exposure to the sun on May 20 at 8 a.m. in the retail space beside JCPenney at Biggs Park Mall. Catherine Gaines, a patient navigator and physician assistant at Gibson Cancer Center, will share information about skin cancer and sun safety. Free breakfast will be served. Public invited to play games

LUMBERTON — Celebrate “Older Americans Month” with a Wii game center play day on May 29 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Community Health Education Center in Biggs Park Mall.
