Essie Bell Smiling Locklear, 81, of Laurinburg, died Jan. 09, 2009, at
the Edwin Morgan Center.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Monday at the Union Light Baptist Church in
Maxton, the Revs. Romey Revels and Grady Hunt officiating. Burial will
follow in the church cemetery.
Locklear was born in Robeson County on Oct. 28, 1927. She was the
daughter of the late James and Ethel Epps Smiling, and the devoted
wife of the late Robert Locklear. She was a devoted homemaker and
retired textile worker. She was a longtime and faithful member of the
Union Light Baptist Church.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory, a son, Clinton Locklear of
Maxton; daughters, Naomi Locklear of Maxton and Sallie Chavis of
Wagram; a brother, Vernell Smiling of Maxton; six grandchildren; and
13 great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Richard
Boles Funeral Service.
