WAKULLA - A Wakulla man was killed Friday night in a single-car accident less than a mile from his home.
James Bryan “JB” Chavis, 21, of 1273 Chavis Road, died after the 2004 Pontiac he was driving ran off the road and struck a ditch, said Sgt. J.A. Cotton of the state Highway Patrol. The accident happened about 11 p.m. on McArthur Road near Old Red Springs Road, about 3.5 miles south of Red Springs.
Chavis was traveling alone.
According the accident report, Chavis was traveling west on McArthur Road about 80 mph when he lost control, ran off the right side of the highway, struck a ditch and flipped once.
Trooper J.A. McVicker Jr., who investigated the accident, couldn't determine if Chavis was wearing a seat belt, Cotton said.
