ASHEVILLE — Julius Duncan Hays, 78, of Asheville, passed away April 6, 2013.
A celebration of Duncan’s life will be 1 p.m. Saturday at Groce Funeral Home at Lake Julian, 72 Long Shoals Road, Arden, N.C.
Born in Apex on July 13, 1934, Duncan lived in Durham and Lumberton before moving to Asheville in 1986.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert S. Hays of Durham, and his brother, Robert S. Hays Jr. of Durham.
Duncan is survived by his wife of 46 years, Jayne Hamlet Hays; his daughter, Virginia Elizabeth Hays; his grandson, Jared Duncan Hays, all of Asheville; as well as his sisters, Laura Frazier of Salisbury and Marion McNair, both of Pinehurst.
He graduated from Sewanee Military Academy and attended Campbell University and UNC Chapel Hill.
Duncan loved life, his family, his friends and his animals, especially his Arabian horses.
He was a golfer, a hunter and UNC Rams Club member for over 35 years.
