Elderly welcome to Christmas pary

LUMBERTON — Seniors and their loved ones are invited to play games and grab a bite to eat on Christmas evening at the Pine Street Senior Center’s Community Christmas Game Party.

Precinct 5 Councilman John Cantey and the descendants of Peter and Mariah Inman welcome seniors who would have spent the holiday alone to come to 801 N. Pine St. from 4 to 11 p.m.

“There are a lot seniors that are going to be home alone on Christmas Day and after they receive their telephone calls from people out of town, they are left at home,” Cantey said. “So what we are trying to do is give them a night of enjoyment, fellowship and food.”

Games will include bingo, Scrabble, Jeopardy and more, Cantey said.

To join, just bring one $1 wrapped gift for a senior to take home, a $1 wrapped gift to be entered into a pool of game prizes and enough hors d’oeuvres to feed your group plus one senior.

“We’re going to try to get everyone a gift,” Cantey said. “There are going to be some seniors who don’t get anything on Christmas.”
