FD sets flushing

of fire hydrants

LUMBERTON — The Lumberton Fire Department will be flowing fire hydrants from March 19 to April 14 between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Flowing a hydrant is necessary to ensure it will provide adequate water flow and function properly in the event of an emergency, according to a department release.

Flowing a fire hydrant can create discolored water, Chief Paul Ivey stated in the release. He encourages residents to check their water before washing clothes or any other activity where discolored water may cause damage. If discolored water is discovered, open a faucet and allow the water to flow until it is clear. If it hasn’t cleared within one hour, call the Public Works Department at 910-671-3851.
