LUMBERTON — Alive After 5, a live concert series in historic downtown Lumberton, will be held on five Thursdays in May and June from 7 to 9:30 p.m. on the corner of Third and Water Street.

Band of Oz is first up, with a performance on Thursday. Other bands and dates are: Jim Quick and Coastline on May 17; Craig Woolard on May 31; Carolina Breakers on June 14; and Holiday Band on June 28. A corn hole tournament will also be held.

LUMBERTON — The Carolina Civic Center Historic Theater will host a live performance of “The Great American Songbook” on May 19 at 7 p.m.

The event will be a live version of the WHQR radio show, featuring songs by Irving Berlin, George and Ira Gershwin, Cole Porter, Duke Ellington, Johnny Mercer and Rogers and Hart.

There will be a reception with WHQR Public Radio staff at 6 p.m. Wine and light appetizers will be served.

Tickets, which can be purchase from 1 to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays at the theater’s administrative office on the second floor or by calling the Civic Center at 910-738-4339, are $15 for adults, $10 for students and $10each for groups of 10 or more.

LUMBERTON — Albert Locklear, president of the Pembroke Lions Club, was the guest speaker at the Saddletree Community Center’s monthly meeting on April 5.

He discussed the roll the Lions Club plays in the community and how it benefits both the community and the state.

SHANNON — Mill Creek Park invites people to showcase their musical talents during its Jamboree Day on May 12 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on N.C. 71 North.

Proceeds from brick sales will go toward building a musical park in Shannon.
