George Oxendine

Pembroke

George Pate Oxendine, 87, of 1268 Faith Road, was born Aug. 27, 1924, and died Feb. 17, 2012, at his home.

The funeral will be conducted 3 p.m. Sunday at Greenpine Freewill Baptist Church, the Revs. Bobby D. Locklear and Clifford Locklear officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenpine Church cemetery.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie Pearl Oxendine; his parents, Giles and Charity Oxendine; two sisters, Crida M. Lowery and Heannie O. Ransom; and a brother, Curley D. Oxendine.

George was a decorated WWII and Korean War veteran with 21 years of service in the U.S. Army. He also served Greenpine Freewill Baptist Church as a deacon, Sunday school superintendent and teacher.

Surviving are five sons, Larry E. Oxendine of the home and his friend Jan Oxendine, Phillip Oxendine, the Rev. Anthony (Tony) Oxendine and his wife Beulah, Randy Oxendine and George P. Oxendine Jr. and his wife, Linda, all of Pembroke; a daughter, Joanne O. Ramey and her husband Dan, of Knoxville, Tenn.; two sisters, Adief B. Oxendine and Juanita O. Locklear, both of Pembroke; 18 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends. Special thanks and love to Stephanie and Troy Jacobs for their love and care of Mr. George following the death of Mrs. Annie Pearl, and also thanks to Deb Chavis for her love and care of our father.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at Locklear & Son Funeral Home.

The viewing will be an hour before the service at the church.

Kathleen Mayes Parker, 89, of Boardman, died recently at Highland Acres Nursing and Rehabilitation in Lumberton.

James Benton, 72, of 22939 U.S. 301 in Parkton, died Feb. 14, 2012, at Highland Acres Nursing and Rehabilitation.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Hatcher Chapel AME Zion Church, the Rev. James Emanuel officiating. Burial will follow in Rockfish Memorial Cemetery.

Surviving are his wife, Carrie L. Benton of the home; a son, Melvin Benton; two daughters, Darlene Murphy and Evelyn Milsap; a sister, Carrie Denton of Fayetteville; a brother, Jerry Denton of Alexandra, Va.; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Mary Lee Locklear, 86, of 367 Truck Lane, died Feb. 16, 2012, at Southeastern Hospice House in Lumberton.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Zion Hill Baptist Church, the Revs. Nick McNeill, Rocky Williamson and Marvin Locklear officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Surviving are a son, James L. “Snuke” Locklear of Shannon; two daughters, Shirlene Freeman of Fairmont and Perlane Lambert of Red Springs; one sister, Myrtle Locklear of Shannon; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Margie Locklear

Margie Locklear, 78, went to be with the Lord on Feb. 16, 2012, at the home of her daughter, Jeannette Cummings.

The funeral will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Union Chapel Community Church in Pembroke. Burial will follow in Oxendine Cemetery in Lumberton.

Locklear was born May 19, 1933, in Robeson County. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charlie Locklear; her daughter, Cynthia Oxendine; parents, Lunnie Locklear and Matilda Locklear; a brother, Lonnie Locklear; a sister, Virgina Sanderson; a son-in-law, Dugle Cummings; and a brother-in-law, the Rev. Lee Locklear.

Surviving are a daughter, Jeannette Cummings of Pembroke; five sisters, Willie Ree Chavis, Dorothy Clark, Mildred Burnette, Vivian Jones and Margaret Three; two brothers, Bobby Revels and Osceola Revels; a brother-in-law, P.D. Locklear; three sisters-in-law, Lucille Revels, Frances Hardin and Christine Locklear; a special niece, Faye Maynor; three grandchildren, John and Chree Oxendine and Ginger Carter; 17 great-grandchildren; and a host of relatives and friends.

Billy Wayne Wilson, 65, of Raeford, died Feb. 17, 2012, at Cape Fear Valley Medical Center in Fayetteville.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Sunday at Breece Memorial Gardens in Fayetteville, the Rev. Ed Wilson officiating.

Surviving are his wife, Rachel Wilson of the home; a daughter, Sharon W. Bruno; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
