PEMBROKE — This time, Mother Nature appears to be cooperating.

The 25th annual Pembroke Day celebration, which was postponed from last week because of the threat of thunderstorms, is looking at clear skies and mild temperatures when it is held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Wednesday at The University of North Carolina at Pembroke.

During the outdoor event, which will take place on the campus Quad, students will have the chance to get acquainted with the various clubs and organizations offered at the college, as well as the businesses and nonprofits located in Pembroke.

“It’s an opportunity for the community and university to come together and learn more about each other,” said Sandy Briscar, UNCP’s executive director of Communications and Marketing. “We have so many students who come from outside the area.”

According to Briscar, nearly 200 vendors are expected to participate in the event, which will include a community health fair. During the fair, representatives from local health care agencies will be on hand to administer flu shots, blood pressure tests and diabetes screenings.

The first 1,500 guests to arrive at the college will be treated to free hot dogs, chips and cookies. Vendors such as Campbell Soup Company and Jersey Mike’s Subs will also offer food samples.

UNCP is located at 1 University Drive in Pembroke. For information, contact University Communications and Marketing at 910-521-6533, or email [email protected].
