Local briefs: New Swett coach doing meet and greet

PEMBROKE — New Purnell Swett High School football coach Jon Sherman will be doing a public meet and greet on Monday night. Sherman will be introduced at an event beginning at 6 p.m. at the Purnell Swett cafeteria. Hamburgers and hotdogs will be served.

Free youth baseball camp this month

LUMBERTON — Lumberton Chevrolet, Lumberton Youth Baseball Association and the Lumberton Recreation District will be hosting a free Ripkin Baseball Clinich on March 25 at Bill Sapp Recreation Center. The clinic lasts from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. for players ages 6 to 14.

Hunting Heritage Banquet next month

LUMBERTON — The Lumber River Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation will be holding its annual Hunting Heritage Banquet on April 9 at the Southeastern Agricultral Center in Lumberton. Doors open at 6 p.m. with dinner starting at 7:30.

The night will include live and silent auctions, games and raffles and a meal by Papa Bill’s that includes southern favorites such as barbeque, fried chicken, coleslaw, sweet potato pie, banana pudding, tea and lemonade.

UNCP Relay holding powerlifting tournament

PEMBROKE — Relay for Life at The University of North Carolina at Pembroke will be hosting a powerlifting tournament on March 29 at 10 a.m. at Stables Fitness. Entry is $10 per person with all proceeds going to the American Cancer Society. For more information email [email protected]
