MAXTON — Gov. Roy Cooper recently honored members of Ouda Temple No. 147, Oasis of Maxton, Desert of North Carolina, for their outstanding community service and charity work.
Rep. Garland Pierce presented the award on June 6 on behalf of Cooper.
Ouda Temple No. 147 officially was charted Nov. 17, 1945, and has earned respect as an outstanding organization and for charity servicese for more than three decades. The small Shriners temple is located in Maxton. They also have received two proclamations and certificates from the mayors of Red Springs and Maxton.
The temple received in June the two highest awards a temple can receive during the N.C. State Desert Conference of Shrine Temples in Durham, the 2018 Temple of the Year award and Illustrious Potentate Robert J. Evans won the 2018 Illustrious Potentate of the Year.
