Civic Center seeks Christmas show performers

LUMBERTON — Talented performers with some holiday spirit are needed for the seventh installment of “A Robeson County Christmas Show.”

The Carolina Civic Center Historical Theatre in downtown Lumberton is holding auditions for the holiday revue Aug. 10 at 6 p.m. and 7 p.m., and Aug. 11 at 10 a.m.

Directed by the theater’s resident artist, Kendrix Singletary, the show is a heart-warming, holiday musical revue for the entire family. The show will feature a cast of singers and dancers from Robeson and neighboring counties performing popular and traditional season classics. Special appearances in the show will include Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, The Grinch, Frosty the Snowman and Santa Claus.

The show will need three male singers; 10 mature, effervescent, spirited and young-looking children who dance, sing and take direction well; and seven female dancers for the newest addition of “The Civettes.”

All singers should come prepared to sing two contrasting songs that demonstrate their vocal ability. Anyone interested should bring accompaniment tracks — a CD player and auxiliary cord will be provided — and be ready to learn a short movement routine. All dancers should come prepared to learn a dance combination.

Adult performers are eligible to receive an artist stipend.

Rehearsals will start in September, with show dates Dec. 6 to Dec. 9 and school shows Nov. 29-30.

In other theater news, tickets for the 2018-19 Mainstage Series go on sale Tuesday.

The season opener will be the “Masters of Soul” on Sept. 14. A regular sellout show, “Masters of Soul” is a celebration of artists discovered in the Motor City in the 1960s. The show features costumed, fully choreographed tributes to male and female groups of the era, backed by a band of seasoned musicians who have been performing together for decades.

Audience members can relive or experience for the first time the harmonies and smooth moves by acts such as The Temptations, Gladys Knight & The Pips, Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terrell, Smokey Robinson and The Miracles, and more. This high-energy show is for all ages.

Tickets will be available online at www.carolinaciviccenter.com. Tickets also can be purchased in-person or with credit card or cash from noon to 5:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays at the administrative offices in the theater’s second floor (enter on Fourth Street side), or by calling the Civic Center at 910-738-4339. Tickets also can be purchased at the door. The theater lobby box office opens for ticket sales one hour prior to performance.
