“Good moms let you lick the beaters when they make a cake … great moms turn them off first.”
Mother’s Day 2018 is fast approaching. All you kids ready out there?
I overheard a partial conversation between the Hansen sisters regarding their plans for yours truly. I have no idea what they are buying but I do know that it is required that everyone pitch in equally to be allowed credit for said gift. As for me, I am treating myself the first half of the weekend to a trip to Harley Week at Myrtle Beach with plans to be back Sunday to celebrate with my 85-year-old mom, aka. Gigi.
This year, instead of breakfast in bed, a box of candy or dinner out, how about finding something to assist with mom’s fitness and wellness? Mother’s Day is a great time to look out for your mom’s health so she can be around for lots of future Mother’s Days. Here are a few ideas for this years’ holiday:
— Chic “kicks:” Exercise shoes can be both functional and fashionable. Depending on what kind of fitness activities your mom is into, there are tons from which to choose. Make sure you know what activities she is going to use them for and her exact shoes size before your shop. If you are unsure about picking them out, get her a gift certificate to a sporting goods store and let her choose.
— Mail order meals: Give mom a break from grocery shopping and meal planning with a membership to a meal delivery service. She can choose the menu, the fixings come fresh and mom (and the family) can cook them together. There are vegetarian, low carb and even Paleo diet options. My daughter, Nikki, and I are using Hello Fresh and we love it! The food is great, we are cooking together, expanding our culinary tastes, and our grocery bill has decreased.
— Smartwatch: A smartwatch is both a functional and fashionable gift. The Samsung Gear Sport is the perfect watch for mom. It tracks calorie burn, heart rate, and steps while providing handy hints for a healthy lifestyle through its Smart Coaching feature. As an added bonus, the Gear Sport will help her field texts and emails while working out to ensure she stays dialed in even during the toughest sweat sessions, and she can swap out the bands to fit her activities and style.
— Foam roller: If your mom needs to release some tension from dealing with you, work or life in general, a foam roller will do the trick. Foam rollers serve double duty by soothing and stretching sore muscles, offering mom a chance to unwind mentally and physically before a big workout or after a hard day at the office. Look for a design with ridges for extra knot-busting power.
These are just a few ideas to get you thinking out of the box for a Mother’s Day gift. Gym memberships, spa gift certificates, and other fitness equipment are also something that will make mom smile on her big day.
Whatever you choose for the occasion, make sure the other 364 days of the year that you tell her how much she is loved and appreciated!
