LUMBERTON — The ALDI grocery store, which has been closed for a month to undergo a major renovation, reopened last week and will mark the occasion formally on Thursday.

A reopening ceremony and ribbon-cutting for the store located at 3725 Fayetteville Road has been scheduled for 8:25 a.m. that day. The public is invited.

The first 100 customers in the door will receive a golden ticket containing gift cards of varying amounts. Customers also will be invited to enter a sweepstakes to win free produce for a year.

The remodeled store features improvements to produce, dairy and bakery sections and an updated design with open ceilings, natural lighting and environmentally-friendly building materials, such as recycled materials, energy-saving refrigeration and LED lighting.

The Lumberton store is part of a $1.6 billion investment plan Germany-based ALDI recently announced for its U.S. stores. More than 1,300 ALDI stores will be remodeled and expanded by 2020.

“Whether you’re a current ALDI customer, or you haven’t stopped by your local ALDI lately, we invite you to come experience the new ALDI look and see how we’ve expanded our fresh offerings while staying true to our everyday low prices,” said Krysta Cearley, ALDI’s Salisbury division vice president. “Customers will recognize our easy-to-shop environment featuring a new modern design and more room for their favorite products.”

In the past few years, ALDI has added a number of new product lines, including a growing organic foods selection and a gluten-free product line. ALDI also carries a new line of baby products, dubbed Little Journey.

ALDI will continue its ALDI Finds program, which offers premium food and household products that are only in stores for a limited time. ALDI Finds vary week to week and themes usually match the season.

ALDI’s streamlined store concept is designed to save money for customers. Rather than conventional shelving, which must be laboriously restocked, ALDI has adopted a warehouse approach with boxes of items stacked on pallets.

The remodeled Lumberton location is open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. every day.
