LUMBERTON — Kellie Blue, a Robeson County assistant county manager and the county’s longtime finance director, says that it takes teamwork for the county’s Finance Department to be recognized each year for its excellence in financial reporting.

Robeson County for the ninth consecutive year has been awarded a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada. According to the nonprofit, the certificate of achievement is the “highest form of recognition in the area of government accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.”

While Blue was acknowledged during Monday’s regular meeting of the Robeson County Board of Commissioners as the award’s recipient, she insisted that all Finance Department staff are responsible for this significant achievement.

“I’m honored to receive this award, but I really think this is a testament to the entire finance team,” she said. “It was a team effort.”

Blue said that the county’s audit is submitted to the Government Finance Officers Association each year for its review. She said that the county opts to include with the audit 10 years worth of a variety of additional financial statistics for the association’s review.

“It’s more work to submit the additional information, but it’s worth it,” Blue said.

Blue has led the Finance Department for years, and recently was also named assistant county manager.
