LUMBERTON — The United Way of Robeson County is throwing a back-to-school party on Thursday for local educators.

It will be from 6 to 8 p.m. at Twin Oaks Shopping Center and will include food, music provided by Don Chase of WKML, door prizes, and a chance to win the “Ultimate School Supply Package,” which is a pickup truck bed filled with school supplies.

The event is more than fun, prizes and music, said JoAnne Branch, of the county United Way. It’s a chance to show support for and to honor educators from all county schools, public and private.

“This event is for educators because it is in appreciation of educators and professional staff,” Branch said.

The United Way of Robeson County has staged Leap Back to Learning for a couple of years, she said. And it has grown.

“We expect a crowd,” Branch said.

Twin Oaks Shopping Center is in front of Lumberton Drug on Fayetteville Road in Lumberton and behind Cakes & Pastries.

The evening will end with a drawing and one educator winning the truckload of school supplies to share with his or her school. Educators will be asked to provide their school ID to be eligible for door prizes and the grand prize.

United Way will also be staging an information fair featuring partner agencies, including Communities in Schools; Robeson County Partnership for Children; UNCP Healthy Start; Boy Scouts; Girl Scouts; Boys and Girls Club; Robeson Family Counseling Center; My Refuge; Lumberton Christian Care; Southeastern Family Violence Center; Rape Crisis Center; Southeastern Hospice; and Hospice House.
