LUMBERTON — Robeson County residents who want to cast a ballot in the municipal elections have missed out on early voting, and have only Tuesday to get that done.

But Tuesday also offers the chance to cast a ballot in their own precinct, without traveling to the Board of Elections in Lumberton. According to the Board of Elections, all the traditional precinct spots will be used. If you need to know where to vote, visit http://co.robeson.nc.us/departments-a-0/board-of-elections.

The polls will be open from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

So far few are bothering. As of Saturday when the 13-day early voting period ended, only about 7 percent of eligible voters had cast a ballot. Many races are not competitive, with just a single name on the ballot, but there are spirited races for two council seats in Lumberton, for mayor and the town boards in Red Springs and Fairmont, and for town boards in Maxton, Pembroke and St. Pauls. As of Friday, there were only eight votes cast in St. Pauls and Rowland out of more than 2,000 eligible voters.
