LUMBERTON — The Robeson County Sheriff’s Office has arrested and charged two people in separate shootings, including one that resulted in a man’s death.

According to a statement by Maj. Anthony Thompson, Diante Jamaris Cromartie, 23, of Spearman Street in Lumberton, has been charged with involuntary manslaughter and possession of a stolen firearm. He was placed in the Robeson County Detention Center under a $60,000 secured bond.

He is accused in the shooting death of 21-year-old Yhamer Alford, of Ralph Hunt Boulevard in Lumberton.

The Sheriff’s Office answered a call at 10:43 p.m. Monday of a person being shot in the chest near 80 Quail Run Road in Lumberton. When deputies arrived, a Lumberton police officer was administering CPR. Alford was taken to Southeastern Regional Medical Center, where he died from his injuries.

No motive has been identified and the investigation continues.

In an unrelated case, Raylynn Lakota Bell, 22, of Shannon Road, Lumberton, has been charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, possession of firearm by felon, and injury to personal property. Bell is in the Robeson County Detention Center under a $50,000 secured bond.

The charge was brought after the Sheriff’s Office responded to a call at 5 p.m. Wednesday of a person being shot on Shannon Road in a domestic dispute between a male and female. A vehicle was seen leaving the Shannon Road address and was pursued to Hancock Road.

The person shot was identified as Roger Ray Hunt, who had a non-life threatening wound to his neck.

Investigators were able to determine Hunt had gone to the Shannon Road address to help his daughter, whom had been assaulted by her boyfriend. An altercation occurred between Hunt and Bell, who used a firearm to injure Hunt.
