LUMBERTON — A Shannon man is in the Robeson County jail being held without bond after being charged in the death of a 16-month-old girl who died Saturday.
Christian Troy Clark, 23, of Rennert Road in Shannon, is charged with one count of first-degree murder and one count of felony intentional child abuse inflicting serious bodily injury, according to a statement from Sheriff Kenneth Sealey.
Sealey said the Sheriff’s Office got a call from Southeastern Regional Medical Center on Friday about 6:10 p.m. concerning Kinsley Oxendine Scott, who lived on Old Whiteville Road, and investigators went to speak with the family. The child was flown to Duke University Medical Center and placed on life support. She died there the next day.
Sealey said there were “bruises pretty much all over her body.”
An autopsy Monday at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Raleigh showed the child died of blunt force trauma.
The Robeson County Sheriff’s Office Homicide and Juvenile divisions began the investigation and it is continuing.
The statement did not indicate a relationship between Clark and the child, nor any motive. The Robesonian received the information after the Sheriff’s Office had closed and was unable to get a photograph of the accused.
