LUMBERTON — There was no recount Tuesday in a St. Pauls Board of Commissioners race in which the incumbent lost by one vote, and a challenge out of Red Springs was dismissed, the county Board of Elections director said.

The recount in the District 4 race between incumbent McClure “Buck” Terry and challenger Donna Patterson was denied by the Robeson County Board of Elections because the margin of victory in the Nov. 7 election was too small, G.L Pridgen said. State law stipulates a recount is warranted only when the margin of victory is less than 1 percent of the votes cast.

A canvass revealed Friday only 91 votes were cast in the race. Terry received 45 votes to Patterson’s 46. One vote out of 91 is less than 1 percent.

The challenge to the Red Springs election results was denied by the board because the person was challenging voting irregularities and the residency of some voters, Pridgen said. The deadline for filing challenges on those grounds was 5 p.m. the day of the election.

The Board of Elections for the Lumbee Tribe certified its Nov. 14 elections results on Tuesday. There were no changes or appeals.
