ROWLAND — An 88-year-old Rowland man has died from injuries he suffered in a road wreck that occurred in November, according to the state Highway Patrol.

Ralph Waldo Brake Jr., of 507 E. Mill St., died on Sunday at McLeod Medical Center in Florence, South Carolina, according to Sgt. Ron Wright.

Brake was found to be at fault in a two-vehicle accident that happened on Nov. 28 on U.S. 501, according to Trooper T.K. Bryan, who investigated that accident.

According to Bryan’s report, Brake was driving a Pontiac passenger car north on U.S. 501 at about 2:20 p.m. when the vehicle left the road to the right, he over-corrected, and it struck a Toyota passenger car in the rear that was making a right turn onto Kitchen Street.

The Pontiac than came to rest in a ditch on the west side of the highway, while the Toyota came to a rest in a ditch on the other side of the road.

The driver of the Toyota, Alice Moore Leggett, 60, of 175 Piedmont Drive, Rowland, was taken to Southeastern Regional Medical Center with injuries that were not considered potentially fatal.

The accident report did not indicate any cause for the accident, and showed that Brake was charged with failing to stop in a timely manner. Brake and Leggett were each along in their respective vehicles.

The Pontiac had $4,000 of damage to its front end, and the Toyota $3,500 to its rear end.
