Southside on school board’s agenda

LUMBERTON — The possible transfer of Southside-Ashpole Elementary School to the Innovative School District is the topic of a public hearing during today’s meeting of the Public Schools of Robeson County’s Board of Education.

The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. at Southside-Ashpole, which is located at 607 S. Martin Luther King Jr. St. in Rowland.

According to information from the school system, “the purpose of the hearing is to afford the public an opportunity to express their views on the potential transfer of Southside Ashpole Elementary School to the North Carolina Innovative School District or the closure of Southside Ashpole Elementary School.”

School district attorney Grady Hunt is to lead a discussion of the state law creating the Innovative School District.

A presentation about Robeson Community College’s Robotics team is on the agenda. Board members also are scheduled to hear Superintendent Shanita Wooten speak about master planning.

A financial report and a budget resolution are under Action Items on the agenda.

Board members are to go into a closed session to discuss student transfers, personnel and legal issues.
