20 gifts push Fund past $31K mark

By: Staff report

The Empty Stocking Fund enjoyed its busiest day on Friday, with 20 donations being received, pushing the total to $31,225.

The largest gift, which was for $1,000, is given in memory of Jack Braswell, a popular Lumberton man who died this week. It was one of four gifts made in Braswell’s honor.

We also received gifts from the Pembroke Kiwanis Club, as well as from the Raynham Baptist Church and the Iona Presbyterian Women.

The deadline to contribute to the Fund is Thursday at 5 p.m.

There are 1,950 children qualified to receive help from the Fund.

Checks can be mailed to the Empty Stocking Fund, 2175 Roberts Ave., Lumberton, N.C., 28358, or a donation can be delivered in person. As in the past, we will publish photographs with gifts of $500 or more when that request is made. To give yourself the best chance of that photograph appearing on page 1A, get your donation in early.

The vouchers can be redeemed at Roses, either the Lumberton store or the one in Fairmont.
