With the deadline to contribute just three days away, the number of donations to the Empty Stocking Fund on Monday soared to 23, adding $6,090 to the total.

We also have now received 128 gifts for at least $50, and each one of them will be matched with a $50 donation from an anonymous benefactor, adding $6,400 that is not included in the total below of $37,315. We need 22 more gifts of at least $50 to take full advantage of the anonymous pledge of up to $7,500.

We encourage everyone to read through the list of those who donated, but we will point out that we received nine pledges totaling $1,700 in honor of Jack Braswell and we also received an $800 gift from Lumberton Radiology Consultants.

There are 1,950 children qualified to receive help from the Fund, and while it appears we will not be able to raise enough money to serve them all, we hope to check as many as possible off Santa’s list.

Checks can be mailed to the Empty Stocking Fund, 2175 Roberts Ave., Lumberton, N.C., 28358, or a donation can be delivered in person. As in the past, we will publish photographs with gifts of $500 or more when that request is made. To give yourself the best chance of that photograph appearing on page 1A, get your donation in early.

The vouchers can be redeemed at Roses, either the Lumberton store or the one in Fairmont.
