ROWLAND — A Fairmont man was killed this weekend when he was thrown from his motorcycle.

According to a report by Trooper S.C. Hunt, Curtis Freeman Jr., 41, of Iona Church Road, was killed at about 6:21 p.m. Saturday in the accident on Stuart Mill Road, about six miles east of Rowland.

The accident report said Freeman was driving a 2011 Harley Davidson when it crossed the center line, and he was ejected, landing in the westbound lane. The vehicle, which suffered about $6,500 damage, exited the road and crashed to the left of the highway.

The report said the helmet that Freeman was wearing was not in compliance with state law, and that speed and alcohol were suspected as contributing factors.
