LUMBERTON — A search was on Monday night for as many as six people who were believed to have gone on a canoe trip on the Lumber River but have apparently disappeared, according to WPDE news.

The station said three adults and three children were reported missing by family members at about 9:15 p.m. They had apparently parked their car at the West Fifth Street and Water Street bridge in downtown Lumberton and had planned to canoe to Princess Anne, the headquarters of the Lumber River State Park.

The family is apparently from Durham.

Police, wildlife officers and Lumberton rescue personnel were involved in the search.
