LUMBERTON — A St. Pauls husband and wife are facing charges of exploiting an elderly woman and taking more than $100,000 in cash, property and other assets.
Tammie Gooch Britt, 41, and her 52-year-old husband, Curtis Vance Britt, both of 177 Brisson Sands Drive, were charged Monday with felony exploitation of an elder or disabled adult through a position of trust or business relationship; and exploitation of an elder or disabled adult who lacks the capacity to consent, according to court documents. Tammie Britt also was charged with abuse of an elder or disabled adult, with serious injury.
Court documents show Tammie Britt was released after being placed under a $50,000 bond, and Curtis Britt was released under a $40,000 bond.
The abuse and exploitation by Tammie Britt began Jan. 1, 2016, and continued through June 21, according to warrants. Curtis Britt became involved in the scheme against Jackie Capps Tyndall about six months later and duped and intimidated her out of money, property and belongings, according to documents.
According to court documents, the spouses “unlawfully, willfully and feloniously did knowingly, while standing in a position of trust and confidence with Jackie Capps Tyndall … and by deception and intimidation endeavor to obtain or use the funds, assets and property of Jackie Capps Tyndall with the intent to deprive Tyndall of the use, benefit and possession of the funds, assets, and property. The value of the funds, assets and property was valued at about $110,000 or both the residence and land.”
The Britts are due back in court on July 10.
