LUMBERTON — Pembroke police say an autopsy on a body found this weekend inside an abandoned home off Pine Street in Pembroke shows the woman died of natural causes.

The woman has been identified by the Medical Examiner’s Office in Raleigh as Rita Maynor, said Detective Ed Strickland, of the Pembroke Police Department.

“It does not appear to be any foul play. However the investigation is still open,” he said.

The decomposing body was found Sunday as police searched for Maynor, who was reported missing on Saturday. Police entered the home through open doors and found the body.

“We are asking anyone who may have seen Rita Maynor between the first of this month and the seventh call the police department,” Strickland said.

The number is 910-521-4333. Ask for Detective Tim Locklear.
