PEMBROKE — The Lumber River Council of Governments has a limited number of fans for eligible people in need.

Under the annual Operation Fan Heat Relief Program, fans are available to Robeson County residents age 60 or older and people with a disability who have a home situation where extended high temperatures may threaten the person’s health and well-being. Fans are available on a first-come, first-serve basis as long as supplies last.

Interested individuals may receive a fan Mondays through Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. by visiting the Lumber River Council of Governments at 30 CJ Walker Road in Pembroke. The individual must provide photo identification with his or her birth date and an address in Robeson County when picking up a fan. Individuals who received a fan in 2017 are not eligible to participate.

The fan program is made possible through the support of Duke Energy Progress. Call 910-618-5533 for more information.
