LUMBERTON — There’s plenty of rain in Lumberton’s forecast for the week, but flooding should not be an issue.

The National Weather Service had issued flood watch for the area early Monday but ended the watch as of mid-afternoon. The Lumber River’s water level was at 6.5 feet early Monday afternoon and is not expected to rise above 7 feet this week. The river’s flood level is 13 feet.

Lumberton’s forecast calls for 1 to 3 inches of rain this week, according to the National Weather Service office in Wilmington. River flooding is driven mostly by rain falling upstream and most of the expected rain will not be in those areas.

The forecast for Tuesday is showers and thunderstorms with a high near 86 and an 80 percent chance of precipitation. Between one-quarter and half an inch of rainfall is expected. The chance of showers and thunderstorms continues into the evening with an overnight low of about 73.

Showers and thunderstorms are likely Wednesday, mainly before noon. The forecast for the rest of the day is mostly cloudy, a high near 87 and a 70 percent chance of rain. The nighttime forecast is mostly cloudy with a low about 72, and showers and thunderstorms likely.
