PEMBROKE — A parade, Eagles tribute band and awards ceremony are just a few of the activities on tap for Homecoming Week at UNC Pembroke, set for Monday through Saturday.

Hotel California “A Salute to the Eagles” will take the Givens Performing Arts Center stage on Friday, performing classic hits like “Take it Easy” and “Desperado.” The show begins at 8 p.m.

“Campus Engagement and Leadership is excited to partner with the Alumni office to organize the many Homecoming events this year,” said Abdul Ghaffar, who led the Homecoming Committee along with Alexis Locklear.

“There are numerous events planned and coordinated by the UNCP family. We hope to encourage school spirit and excitement throughout the week and into the weekend.

“We are encouraging our amazing campus clubs and organizations to lead us into an awesome weekend of activities beginning with the annual parade and bonfire Thursday afternoon.”

The festivities — dubbed Paint the Town Black and Gold — kicks off Monday with Spirit Fest on the University Center lawn. The campus bookstore will hold its grand opening earlier in the day.

Activities will continue with Meet Miss UNCP and homecoming parade on Thursday. A bonfire will be held that evening in the Jones Center parking lot. Moonlight Madness, where fans can get their first look and men and women’s hoops squads, begins at 8 p.m.

A 5K Glow Run and 1-mile Fun Run will be held at 5 p.m. on Friday. Proceeds will benefit scholarships in the Health and Human Performance Department. The Alumni Awards and Hall of Fame banquet begins at 6 p.m. in the University Center Annex.

This year’s Hall of Fame inductees are Justin Hinson (football), Lisa Mason (basketball), Curry Pickard (wrestling), Jerry Stancil (track and field), and Dewayne Watson (basketball).

Alumni award recipients are Candace Langston, Young Alumna of the Year; Arnold Locklear, Distinguished Service Award; and Paul Nelson Locklear, Outstanding Alumnus Award.

The homecoming dance will be held in the auxiliary gym at 10 p.m.

A homecoming tailgate party begins at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday. Graduates from the classes 1985-1990 are invited to a 30-year class reunion celebration in the Jones Center Parking lot beginning at 2 p.m.

The Braves will take on the Mountain Lions of Concord University. The game is scheduled for a 4 p.m. kickoff at Grace P. Johnson Stadium. The annual step show will follow at GPAC at 8 p.m.
