LUMBERTON — A special meeting of the Public Schools of Robeson County Board of Education has been called for Monday in the Lumberton City Council chambers.

The only issues to be discussed are the central office, achievement awards, teacher allotments and personnel, according to a brief notice issued by the school district. City Hall is located at 500 N. Cedar St.

School board Chairman Mike Smith said board members wanted to be updated on several important issues, and their next regular meeting is scheduled for Nov. 20. The board usually meets on the second Tuesday of each month, but members’ scheduling conflicts forced a late November meeting.

“We wanted to hear updates on several issues,” Smith said. “Progress on returning to the BB&T building is one issue.”

The school district’s central office moved from Pembroke to the former BB&T service center on Kahn Drive in Lumberton this past summer. Floodwaters generated by Hurricane Florence in mid-September forced personnel out and into Lumberton Junior High School, while the 20,000-square-foot building was rehabilitated.

After 30 days of repair work and testing for mold, the BB&T building was turned back over to the public schools on Tuesday.

Teacher allotments from the state for each of Robson County’s 41 schools also is on the agenda.

Finally, the board will go into closed session to discuss personnel matters.

“This should be purely routine,” Smith said. “There are staff changes through the school year.”
